SPENDING MEASURE "A" BEFORE IT PASSES

Your leaders are pretty certain Measure "A" will pass.  They are so certain, they are planning to spend the money before the measure even goes to the polls.

"Supervisors spoke of possibly tapping part of the $4 billion road-building pot they hope to raise through a proposed extension of Measure A.

"The measure, which would extend for 30 years a half-cent sales tax for road and transportation projects, is to be submitted to the voters in November 2002. A list of projects to be funded by the Measure A extension is to be approved by the Riverside County Transportation Commission before the public vote. The voting members of the commission are the county's five supervisors and representatives from each of the county's cities. "  County OKs Money for Clinton Keith, NC Times, 10/17/01

In the same article, you may note the following:

"The three-mile extension of the road is seen by transportation planners as key to providing an east-west connection between French Valley, where 30,000 homes have been approved to date, and the rest of the region.

'If that road is not built, half the homes planned out there would not be able to be built,' said Jim Miller, Murrieta's development services director."

Now, is this about serving the citizens of Riverside County, or is this about serving the developers of the 30,000 homes?  I think it is rather obvious it is about serving the developers, but you may have a different opinion.
