scary science experiments

Sooo...
The wife tossed some fireplace ashes in the recycle bin. I would have done it too, but I didn't happen to be the one cleaning the fireplace.
A bit later, we noticed the plastic recycle bin had burnt up, along with a plastic garbage can sitting next to it. Gone. Vamoosed.
Well, a few flames remaining, as it were, to which I took the garden hose.
But here's the thing. Not even a single leaf in the recycle bin was singed. Nor on the tree under which the recycle bin was standing.
I took that to mean that the plastic fire was a very cool temperature fire. The fire started inordinately easily. Burned very quickly. And left virtually everything around it intact.
Which led me to thinking about how much plastic is in my car. Does car plastic go up in flames this easily?
