yast, zypper and some other stuff

Yast2 borked in my OpSu 11.2 KDE 4.4 RC1 install. Now, that is inconvenient, especially if one does not know any other way of solving update problems.
...
Now, one option was YAST, invoked from a command line. But, I find that version really cumbersome. Among other things, when I would try to run Yast2, I would get the systemconfig editor sub-portion of Yast instead.
So, I went and looked up some commands for "zypper," the command line software tool. Well, actually, as it turns out it is pretty easy to update the entire system with zypper (in a root konsole, "zypper up". Plus, I appreciate the feedback from this system -- since after fixing whatever the screw-up was, I had another problem -- software updating kept "locking up" and I couldn't tell what was happening. But, as it turns out, the download was just not coming in for some reason.
Part of the reason for all this aggravation was that suddenly I was getting inordinate cpu usage. Also, Firefox kept locking up. Still don't know why -- but what I discovered was that beagle or some subset of beagle indexing kept running.
Now, this was odd since I have never liked or used beagle (or really, any indexing) and I ALWAYS REMOVE BEAGLE when I install OpSu. But magically beagle had re-installed itself in some update or other.
