well, there it is, then ... 4.2
By basd on Jan 27, 2009 | In kde4, linux
Not actually knowing anyone else who uses Linux, my KDE 4.2 release party consisted of a short one-person celebration with a large bowl of granola.
...
Amazing that 4.2 is already available from the OpenSuse repositories.
Here's my implementation (yep, no background, I like black):

As I've been using the RC-1, I don't see a lot of difference, of course. Except, the big one I noticed is that the manual network connections are now working! (Yay!) So, now I can use OpenDNS.com again. Also, my x64 machine now has blue Oxygen panel backgrounds. Till now, they were blue only on my 586 machines. And then yesterday, one of my three panels started intermittently turning blue. Today, blue.
As many KDE watchers have commented, this is the release that would have made the transition to KDE 4 much less painful. Finally, ready to go. (I think.)
But, it's been a fun process to watch. And, even in its rockiest days, KDE 4 never drove me to despair the way Microsoft Vista did.
However you look at it, KDE 4.2 is a significant accomplishment and a great contribution to the Open Source world.

PS -- Unlike earlier transitions, no plasma crashes when I upgraded. More kudos.
