WebDAV

So, most of the time I don't know anything about anything. I have been coming across the term "WebDAV" for awhile -- and, yeah, I understood this was a way of accessing documents collaboratively from a web server.
But, since I connect SSHFS to my webserver, what's the point of learning something new? What is it, anyway?
Then I noticed that OpenOffice has password protection and runs on WebDAV. So, assuming the protection were any good (ie, not crappy like MS Word) maybe just connecting to my server via "WebDAV" and using the native OpenOffice password protection would be "sufficient."
But, did my web host offer "WebDAV"? I went and did a search in the infobase, and "WebDAV" brought back "Webdisk." With no explanation whether this was the same thing or something different.
But, whatever. The point is that if I set up "Webdisk" on my server, then I can access it with a network connection from WindowsXP. Cool.
Also from Windows VISTA. Oh, wait, like everything "VISTA", the infobase specifically points out that this system is broken in VISTA. It may connect, or may not -- expect lots of frustration (so says the infobase). Oh, Vista has some sort of patch, but don't expect too much out of that either (again, according to my web server's infobase).
So, at least this version of "WebDAV" would be nothing more than being able to mount (a portion) of my web server as a network drive. Like the native capability of SSHFS in Linux.
And -- doing away with the need for SftpDrive, or the alternatives I mentioned in an earlier post.
Goody.
