Former Novell employee Joe Brockmeier reports on Planet SUSE that rumor says Novell is up for sale and the Linux portion will be split off to a "strategic buyer."
I remember a few years back when Novell purchased SUSE. It ultimately worked out for the best for those of use who used that version of Linux, but the transition was scary. Although Novell has been doing some odd partnering things with Microsoft, it has seemed like a genuine Linux champion -- especially as it forged ahead in the SCO litigation.
And this comes on the same day that I saw a post from Aaron Seigo of KDE criticizing Canonical's new copyright agreement, indicating he couldn't sign it. Canonical, of course, supports another leading Linux distro, Ubuntu.
Wow! Scary...
