notes to lxde team
By basd on Mar 3, 2010 | In linux, opensuse
As mentioned, I've been using the lxde desktop on some of my computers.
...
Some things execute a bit faster. It picks up the autostart programs that I setup in KDE, so it launches my top of the screen kde 3.5 panel and nm-applet to access the wireless. With Xscreensaver, I get the screensaving and power management I want. My KDE and Gnome applications are readily available.
Because of having to rebuild my desktops often (KDE 4 plasma crashes, updating, etc.) I keep my many launch icons in specific folders, which is convenient. Unfortunately, I can't drag and drop them on the desktop -- but I can "copy" and paste them!.
Not that the lxde team is, or even should be, reading my blog, but here's one feature I would like to see -- I like to put a lot of icons in narrow panels around the four sides of my screen. In KDE 4, I can just drag and drop my icons onto the panels.
LXDE panels require the addition of an application launcher applet -- and then, the applcations are selected from the menu system. BUT WHAT ABOUT LAUNCHERS THAT ARE NOT IN THE MENU. Eg., shortcuts to specific webpages?
Well, it is possible (but time consuming) to add actual menu items for these. However, there is still a defect, or at least a problem I can't seem to work around. Whatever icon I associate with these in the menu -- it doesn't necessarily associate on the panel. So, I end up with a series of identical icons (the Gnome default one). Tooltips will tell me what they are on roll-over, but still inconvenient.
What I'd really like to see is "drag and drop" from a folder, that maintains the associated icon.
Thank you for listening and have a pleasant tomorrow!
