my gateway lt3103u springs back to life?!?!?
By basd on Jun 29, 2010 | In -arghhh!!
In an earlier installment, we learned that the fan had died in my lt3103u and Best Buy would not repair it, but would trade it in for something else under warranty service.
...
The problem was, that meant turning over my hard drive, client data and all that. So, I set the computer aside till I had time to work on it. (It would run just fine with a laptop cooler sitting under it, but otherwise, thermal shutdown made it unusable.)
So, herein we begin a new saga:
Firstly, I backed up my data and removed my user accounts. Then I decided to remove my linux partition, something I had never done before. I used the Windows Vista (Home Edition) disk manager and it removed the partitions just fine.
Then it occurred to me, how is it going to start up? Will grub work? Because, Vista was still running but I hadn't rebooted yet.
Well, I can't tell you what "would have" happened. Because I tried EasyBCD, which is supposed to fix/restore the windows boot manager. Only it wouldn't do it. Maybe it can't uninstall grub.
You know, of course, what is coming next.
Reboot -- grub fail.
