I did an OpSu 11.2 / KDE 4.3 install that seems to have no issues! On an x64 Gateway desktop. Of course, I didn't use it very much so I haven't pushed it to where I normally run into issues. But anyway.
...
In other news, I was obsessing on various "web search" issues. Some companies have annoyed me later by sending confirming emails containing my user name and password. How dumb is that??? And should we trust the security of a very large business organization that uses wants us to do online business with them and is this un-security-savvy??? Sheesh.
Which led me to see what it takes to do a web search for passwords. Which led me to discover that webpages created by Front Page give up their user names and passwords effortlessly! It's a jungle out there and worse that I suspected. I'm always afraid when I do this kind of search the search-profiler police will be at my door minutes later -- but I'm just trying to figure out what online stuff is secure (apparently, nothing).
Which led me to another pet topic, how useless Google has become and why are all the new search engines even worse??? How difficult is it to write a decent webot? Apparently, simple. So ... what's with you 20 something computer geeks? Where is the OpenSource, ditch all the crap, search engine?
Which led me to the command "|free=yes". I'm not certain what it does (because I still get a bunch of commercial sites I don't wish to visit), but it does seem to pare things down a bit. Now what are the google commands to get rid of the twitter search panel and the local business results.
It seems to me there is much to be said for building some php google templates, which will be less work than building my own searchbot. But, I am a bit tired of never being able to find what I am looking for. For a number of years, searches have been becoming less useful rather than more useful. This is the wrong trajectory, but typical of just about everything.
