So at the moment I am using the gnome (3.0 sort of) desktop as it is the only one that will remember my left/right screen setup when I logout and log back in. But I did discover what might be part of the problem(s) ...

KDE3 used to have a hotkey to pop up a little skull and crossbones cursor, which -- if you clicked on a stalled or runaway application (well, any application), would kill it. Very useful -- especially when there was a much bigger problem with runaway ap… more »
