linux/brother 8890 printing issue solved

OK, so I have complained for some time that certain programs (okular/libreoffice) were printing to the MP tray, even though designating tray 1. Other programs (Evince) were printing correctly. I could not find a software solution. I tried one thing that has worked to resolve other problems -- I installed the 8840 drivers to print to the 8890. (It seems that some brother drivers are not actually printer-specific. Or at least with respect to the features I normally use. I also run 8840 driver on my 9840 color printer -- and it supports the color printing, etc.)
But, anyway. Totally frustrated, I started wondering if there were a HARDWARE setting that was causing the problem. I discovered the paper tray was set to "MP>T1". I changed that setting to "T1 only". Ok, it took me 6 mos. or so, but problem solved.
