in which we revisit plasma
By basd on Mar 19, 2009 | In kde4, linux, opensuse
Although I don't actually use the plasma desktop anymore/yet ... occasionally I like to check in and see how it's doing. Especially when I've downloaded, oh, say 3 gig or so of OpenSUSE updates in the last couple of days.
...
I have given up on putting icons on plasma panels, so all I've got is pretty much the default panel running at the bottom and a couple of kde 3.5 kicker panels left and top.
The only drawback to kicker panels is that they will launch kde 3.5 versions of programs that have twin versions.
First thing I can say is I do not like the new ugly Oxygen clock. (Oh, wait. I just discovered there are now two analog clocks. The old one is still available.) I wonder if there are other themes in Yast and I just don't have them loaded. Earlier, plasma installed with several theme choices, but it has worked its way down to oxygen only, at least in my install.
I wonder why the widgets are no longer in alphabetical order in the widget selection screen.
I can't figure out what the network manager is doing, because my wireless connection fails to connect two or three times and then connects. What is happening? I seem to have accumulated three separate connections for my main wireless connection and maybe the connection applet is trying each of these. Maybe the last one is the only one that has properly saved the connection info and password. Don't know.
But, at least it seems now to have saved the password info and is not requiring manual input every time. I consider this "progress." In fact, network manager issues are the primarily reason I'm using a gnome login instead of a kde4 one. (Though I'm running on KWin.)
That's the latest from my desktop.
Thank you for visiting and have a pleasant tomorrow.
