haiku operating system

Wouldn't you know I would go to a Linux computer show, as an exhibitor no less, and come home enamored with a not-linux operating system.
...
Okay, well it's not ready for prime time and who knows when or if it will be. The exhibitor I talked to said it has taken 9 years to get to "alpha alpha" stage. But as I mentioned in my last post, I like stuff that runs fast. Haiku is based on the old BeOS closed source system that died some years back ... say in 2001, about the time Haiku was born. The way it was told to me, some developers were enamored with the OS and did not want to see their conceptualization die. Although, it seems, none of them actually became? are? part of the current Haiku team. But in any event, the OS was apparently rebuilt in Open Source from scratch.
It looks to me as though there are some novel ideas. The file system is a database system, which can be indexed and sorted. This means programs and the API can be latched onto by attribute, so directory structure is apparently irrelevant. And, it also sounded to me as though the graphic system is built into the OS rather than sitting on top of it, as X sits on top of the linux kernel.
Well, the foregoing discussion exhausts (or exceeds) my knowledge of OS structure. But it seems to me it will be a rather simple task to put a sample install on a bootable external drive and check it out. If and when I do, my reader base (yes, just basically the googlebot and an occasional visit from the Live bot or whatever) will be instantly informed of the results.
Or, considering my approach to "live blogging" from SCALE, perhaps "instantly informed" is a bit of hyperbole. But, when I get around to it I will mention it.
Speaking of mentioning things, I have noticed that using LXDE I am having a much smaller problem with my cursor randomly jumping elsewhere in the text I am typing. I have a fairly serious problem with this generally, and particularly in KDE 4.
