eternal frustrations of the bluetooth kind
By basd on Jan 26, 2009 | In kde4, linux, opensuse, tethered blackberry
So, wouldn't you know it, my bluetooth Blackberry connection wouldn't work today.
...
There have been so many software changes, I have no idea what change has caused the problem. I tried adding software (eg. compatibility modules) removing software (eg. KDE3 modules) and running in KDOMOWS. I tried taking the Bb battery out and replacing it, as is normally necessary.
No luck, although a couple of times I got a connection and the rest of the time I got "connection refused."
Finally, having put all my software back the way it was when I started out, I managed to eek out a solution. Too late to be useful for today, but anyway. Maybe next time.
Not only has kde software updated, so has the Bb software. What I came up with was to remove the pairing from the Blackberry.
Upon inserting the USB bluetooth dongle, Kde's bluetooth icon pops up in the system tray -- but it says, "no adapter available." Then I run KDE4Bluetooth (icon found under Internet>Data Exchange). Then I run my "pppd call bberry" script (described elsewhere) in su mode.
If I have removed the pairing, then I get a request for the identifier password on the Blackberry, and then on the computer. After that, the Blackberry asks whether to allow the computer. Then the script runs.
Very cumbersome, especially as I have to remove the pairing and start all over the next time.
It does seem to appear that I no longer have to remove the Bb battery. However, in a way that was more convenient, since I had a "1 click" startup, and all I had to do was remove and replace the battery between sessions.
Thank you for listening and have a pleasant tomorrow.
