customizing da blog ...

b2evolution is quite improved from the earlier version i was using. but, as i had to "start over,"
...
i did more customization.
For the nav menu, there "default" has a couple of entries I couldn't understand. One was "about blog a" and the other was "about this system." They are "page list" widgets, but I can't find the variables in the widgets to create new entries. When I edited "about blog a", I lost the entry altogether.
HOWEVER, I did figure out something useful and I will pass it along. An HTML "widget" allows you to put whatever you like, such as an html link. But, to adopt the menu style, you should bracket the entry with html for list entries. (eg. "li.../li" -- which, naturally, I can't display correctly here because the blogging software reads the missing brackets as html.) But hopefully, you get the point.
