being to the party late
By basd on Jan 28, 2009 | In web 3.0?, cloud computing
The wonderful thing about always being late to the party is that I never have to actually create anything myself. Someone has already done it for me, I just have to find it.
...
So, in our last episode, the question was, "how can I unencrypt my gpg stuff on a public computer?"
Here's GPG To Go, which asked and answered the question a couple of years ago. The page also references Portable Thunderbird.
As we can see, these programmers answered the question long before I even thought about asking it.
Closer to what I'm looking for is FireGPG, which builds gpg right into Firefox. But then I need Portable Firefox -- or heck, why not a bunch of Portable Apps..
(Of course, I don't know whether a normal publicly accessible computer in 2009 will actually allow execution of all these .exe programs from a USB drive. If it were my public computer, I probably would prevent that. But, until I test it, I will assume Mr. Haller has checked it out and wouldn't be going to all the trouble of building the apps if they weren't useful ...)
Here's a discussion of portable Firefox for Linux. It seems that "free" Firefox is not so free after all, as it seems to have rolled to a stop based on licensing issues.
And this effort. Also this. Apparently, the goal is to have a portable version that will run in EITHER linux or windows, which would be very convenient.
So, as you can see, I'm making progress without actually doing anything myself.
Thanks guys!
Thank you for visiting and have a pleasant tomorrow.
