argghhs'o'the day

I updated my b2evolution. Forgot I had edited the main skin to provide "number of views", since it's convenient to see that info. Gone. Do not remember how to edit the skin at the moment.
But that is not my current pet peeve. Why are 10 year old computers so useless? I mean, it worked fine when it was new. Now it is like waiting for paint to dry. I re-did the kernel. I wonder if this was worth the trouble? There does not seem to be any particular benefit to using iceWM rather than Plasma. But rather OpenSUSE 10.1 ago this computer used to work considerably better.
This is also afflicting my seven year old computer. I think Banshee has a memory leak that affects Plasma. All I know is that when Banshee has been running awhile, Plasma starts consuming more CPU -- even when Banshee has been exited. Temperature rises, fan runs, reboot necessary.
OpenSUSE 11.2 is out, but I apparently am no longer an early adapter. If I install the new version, I have to back up stuff that is not backed up, adding to the never-ending and impossible to deal with trail of "just in case" backups that never get deleted.
