unintended updates

So, suddenly the OpenSuse repositories I use decided I should be using Firefox 3.5 beta.
Follow up:
The only thing is, I have a lot of addons that I rely on, and a bunch of them don't work in 3.5.
I downloaded a second version of regular firefox from mozilla.com and put it in /opt. So, I can run the regular 3.0.10 or whatever, and everything works. Except, I had some trouble figuring out how to get the flash plugin to work -- I had to copy plugins from /usr/lib64/browser-plugins to /opt/firefox/plugins.
But now my system is schizophrenic. If I start the /opt version, then anything that opens in firefox generally will open in the non-beta browser. Except, however, because I use separate profiles and some "no-remote" startups via icons, none of those work right, because they launch in the beta version.
Double-arghhh. Two steps forward, one step back.
Speaking of which ...
Well, that's a separate post.
