acrobat memory leak

It seems that any time I view a pdf document embedded in a website, which causes firefox to invoke an adobe acrobat reader plugin, I end up with a massive memory leak that cripples my computer -- requiring a reboot (a logout/login will not do). And, it doesn't seem to change the behavior when I try and change the "application" that runs when I click on a pdf file. Regardless of the setting, I still get adobe reader plugin (crash).
